MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & SAO PAULO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ooyala Inc., a U.S.-based online video platform provider, and NetMovies, the leading online movie rental company in Brazil, are announcing the launch of NetMovies Live, a new, web-based movie streaming offering. The service, powered by Ooyala video delivery technology, is currently available to subscribers on the NetMovies.com.br website. It enables viewers to easily and seamlessly enjoy feature films on the Web, without the need for an additional plugin download. With the launch of this service, NetMovies expects its overall rentals to exceed 10 million movies by the end of this year.

Viewers simply select a movie and immediately begin watching their full length program. Using adaptive bit rate delivery technology, Ooyala is able to determine the end user’s viewing capabilities and dynamically adjust the video delivery accordingly.

“Ooyala’s innovative video solutions have helped accelerate our overall online video strategy. Their online video publishing, analytics, and video monetization services have allowed us to launch faster and offer an exceptional user experience with the Ooyala Video Player,” said Daniel Topel, CEO of NetMovies.

NetMovies will also leverage Ooyala’s global video delivery infrastructure to ensure direct access to video content at any time for audiences of all sizes. As the number of NetMovies rentals has skyrocketed from 500,000 to 5 million videos in the past year alone, scalability is crucial for continued growth.

"We are excited about supporting their growth with our technology. The viable methods for film distribution are changing quickly and we are seeing an increasing number of companies deploying similar subscription models for their online video businesses," said Bismarck Lepe, Ooyala's President of Product Strategy.

Currently, the NetMovies online rental library consists of 100 classic films, though the company will be expanding its movie selections to a few thousand by the end of this year. NetMovies secured the rights to distribute the videos online and will pay royalties for each film.

Viewers may test out the online movie service with a 15 day free trial, after which access plans range between $10-$40 monthly.
