CapRock to Provide Connectivity to Remote Onshore Drilling Sites

JAKARTA, Indonesia & HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CapRock Communications, a leading provider of global communications to remote environments, today announced an agreement with Genting Oil Kasuri Pte. Ltd. (GOKPL) to provide satellite connectivity to support its Seismic and Drilling program in Kasuri Block, located onshore south of Bintuni Bay in West Papua province in Republic of Indonesia. GOKPL, the oil and gas division of Genting Oil & Gas Limited (GOGL), is responsible for oil and gas exploration and production and has operations and offices in China, Indonesia and Morocco.

CapRock’s VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) solutions provide clients operating in locations where terrestrial infrastructure is either unavailable or unreliable with access to dependable communications. The satellite solutions provide an “always-on” connection that is similar to that found in a corporate setting. “Kasuri Block is located in a remote area of Papua where network accessibility is limited,” said CapRock Vice President and General Manager of Southeast Asia Ian Ford. “With our solutions, GOKPL is able to provide network connectivity to its remote sites so that each site can operate as smoothly and efficiently as the GOKPL offices located in urban areas.”

As part of the award, CapRock will deploy its managed VSAT solutions that include equipment and installation, service and support to five sites within the drilling camp. The five sites include a construction location, seismic area, two field offices and a drilling site. GOKPL will use the satellite connectivity for VoIP (Voice over IP), corporate networking and direct communication between the remote sites and GOKPL’s head office in Jakarta, Indonesia. The solutions will leverage fixed C-band antennas and provide the sites with data rates from 128 Kbps to 512 Kbps using SCPC (Single Channel per Carrier) technology.

“CapRock has developed a strong relationship with GOGL,” continued Ford. “Two years ago, we worked closely with GOGL on another communications project and based on the consistent quality of service and our responsive customer support, we proved our commitment to delivering a reliable solution. For this project, GOKPL looked for the provider that could best meet its technical and administrative specifications, and we are honored to have been selected.”

CapRock has a large presence in Asia Pacific. Customers operating in the region benefit from CapRock’s self-owned and operated teleport and support center in Jakarta, a co-location teleport and support center in Perth, Australia, a sales office in Singapore and a 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC).
