NGN 2009

PETALUMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Teknovus, the leading provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (G-EPON) chipsets for deployment of triple-play residential and business services in broadband access networks, announced that Greg Caltabiano, President & CEO, will present “Next Generation Access – Evolution and Convergence” at NGN 2009 in Taipei. The presentation will present EPON’s evolution as the unified access technology for wire-line and wireless services.

Today, more than 25 million subscribers worldwide are connected to EPON fiber-based networks. Teknovus’ EPON chips and embedded software have been deployed by more than 35 carriers, meeting the requirements of residential (single family, MDU), business (large enterprises, small offices) and cell-site backhaul (2G, 3G, 4G) applications. All major communications equipment vendors are offering Teknovus EPON solutions for FTTx networks.

Greg Caltabiano will discuss the soon-to-be ratified IEEE 802.3av 10G-EPON standard and Teknovus’ EPON carrier-grade architecture. Teknovus’ symmetric 10G-EPON solution supports triple-lambda wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) for simultaneous downstream operation at 1.25Gb/s, 2.5Gb/s and 10Gb/s. The system also supports dual rate burst mode, enabling co-existence of dual rate ONUs at both 1.25Gb/s and 10Gb/s in the upstream.

Teknovus chips are in deployment at Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), and CHT recently selected Teknovus’ 10G-EPON solution for testing in its next generation access network. “We are delighted to be the chip provider to Chunghwa Telecom’s FTTx system vendors and to have the opportunity to present at this prestigious conference on Next Generation Networking,” said Greg Caltabiano, Teknovus President & CEO. “We will be sharing the podium with prestigious carriers from around the world who are also engaged in the advancement of their business and residential access networks. NGN 2009 is an important forum for sharing real-world FTTx deployment experience along with plans for seamless rollout of new and expanded service models.”
